So three months after I was supposed to have this done I finally managed to finish the last part of Approved Tolerance! This is the ‘short’ coda to In His Own Way, which picks up immediately after In His Own Way ends, so you may want to reread the last scene of that fic to get a refresher on what’s going on. If you’re a first time reader, I’m afraid this fic won’t make a whole lot of sense if you haven’t read In His Own Way first, since it establishes the relationship and works out the details of the AU characterization.

IT’S DONE IT’S DONE IT’S DONE IT’S DONE! Okay, so the main fic is done. In case you missed the ask I had last week: you may have noticed that I’ve put it in a series rather than leaving it as a stand-alone, meaning there will be more in this verse. It does! I don’t have plans to make it a plotty series beyond In His Own Way, but I’ve got two other pieces planned out for the verse. One is a coda that immediately follows In His Own Way, and the other one is a prequel that explains what happened at Kamii that set Hide (and Kimi and Nishio) on this particular path. 😀

hi there! i just wanted to say that i recently came across your tokyo ghoul fics, and they are INCREDIBLE. i might have a slight bias as a hide/kaneki fan but i’ve enjoyed reading them so much!! i hope this doesn’t come off as obnoxious or pushy but i just had to ask, any word on when we might be expecting another chapter of in his own way? i can’t wait for it!

Thank you! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed them. Hide and Kaneki’s relationship has a lot of different facets, and I’m having fun exploring them.

As for updating, you don’t sound pushy at all. I know it’s been over a month and I haven’t really said anything about progress, but the next chapter should be up soonish (within the next week or two). It’s completely written but needs to be beta’ed before it’s fit for general consumption. It’s a fair bit longer than the first chapter though, so hopefully that’ll make up for the wait. The other good news is that I’m getting close to having the last chapter written as well, so it shouldn’t take quite as long as this one has.
